The official Facebook blog post explains further: Originally posted by mystman12: December 10 is the confirmed release date for the Quest version, but theres no date for the Steam release yet. In many ways, VR is aiming to do the same thing for video games and technology as a whole, so it’s fitting that Myst would bring it all full-circle with a true made-for-VR adaptation.

It ushered in a new era of gaming, legitimized the CD-ROM, and pushed boundaries in bold new directions. Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo DS, SEGA Saturn, 3DO, Classic Macintosh, PlayStation, Jaguar, Commodore / Amiga, PSP, PlayStation 3, PS Vita. It’s exciting, but not necessarily surprising given Cyan’s previous development of Obduction and Firmament, as well as publishing titles like Zed.Īrguably, Myst is the most important PC game of all-time. This is complete speculation on my part, but I think it makes a lot of sense. We first learned about Myst getting the VR treatment back at the first-annual Facebook Connect in September of this year. I think Cyan is just taking their time with the other platforms to wait until it's actually ready to release. I get the feeling that the reason the other platforms are releasing later isn't because of an exclusivity agreement, but because someone made the decision that the Quest version had to release on December 10. Obviously they didn't make a decision to leave all but one of the old sounds in, which can only mean that they just ran out of time before they were able to create new ones. I would reccomend that order, simply because the first 4 games clearly flow from one to the next as one story, and Myst V, while referencing back to the first 4, also takes into account a lot of the stuff first seen in Uru. Except one (And the new one sounds great!). The chronological order goes like this: Myst. Besides bugs, there are a handful of things that scream "we ran out of time before we could get around to fixing/finishing this." For example, despite nearly all sounds in the game being brand new, the sounds for the Selenetic door puzzle are the originals. Whether it was Facebook or someone at Cyan, I don't really know, but while I'm pleased with the Quest version there are quite a few rough patches. I don't know anything for sure, but it really feels to me like someone wanted to get the game out on Quest when they did regardless of whether or not it was quite ready yet.
